Knudt Knudtson (1873-1964)
Knudt Knudtson was born in Perry, Wisconsin, in 1873. He arrived in Osoyoos in 1912. Knudtson purchased the Bill Lacey property on Kruger Mountain in 1914.
He owned a beautiful team of black Percheron mares, which he traded to Mrs. Stanton of Oroville, Washington, for some Jersey cows. From this herd developed the world-famous Sunflower Jerseys, widely known for their milk and butterfat records. Knudtson sold his herd to Ed Lacey in the early 1920s.
In 1948, the Canadian Legion Local Branch 173 made Knudtson a member in appreciation of his support to the organization in various ways. The local branch was named the K. Knudtson Branch in his honour.
Knudtson was a resident of Osoyoos for over half a century when he passed away in 1964. He is buried in the pioneer section of the Osoyoos Cemetery.
